About The NUWEC Project

Northern Uganda Wildlife Education Center (NUWEC)

The Northern Uganda Wildlife Education Center (NUWEC) project is dedicated to promoting tourism, wildlife conservation, and community education on the importance of preserving biodiversity. It also aims to improve local livelihoods through employment opportunities, community sensitization, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture (fish farming). The project is owned by Braaky Investment Company Limited, based in Aboke, Kole District, Northern Uganda.

The conservation initiative began in 2008 with efforts to plant and protect indigenous tree species, particularly in and around swamp areas. This required engaging and educating local communities to foster a culture of wildlife conservation.

The official establishment of NUWEC as a wildlife zoo started in 2024, with a mission to support community-based tourism, conservation education, fish farming, and to offer sanctuary to wild animals affected by habitat degradation. The project operates on an eight-acre piece of leased land.
